We’re half way through! How’s it going? Keep on writing!

Today’s prompt:

Write a poem from a dog’s point of view.

Post your poem to comments!

Please read the NaPoWriMo page for details on how the challenge works, how to comment,  and how you can participate this month, no matter what your personal writing challenge is for the month of April. Remember that work shared this month is shared in precisely that spirit: sharing, as opposed to critiquing.

  1. Can’t believe we’re halfway!!!!! I did a poem about being halfway:

There is a moment of bursting energy you seem to acquire
    when you reach the halfway mark of your journey;
the finish line becomes achievable in light–
The fight you have fought is no longer a fight.

Impossible goals have suddenly turned plausible
The dragging weight upon you dissolves like sand
Movements are effortless and rhythm is fluent
Whatever adapting is required, you go into it.

The road grows shorter and the world seems brighter
You’ve finally conquered the toughest hill
You’re going to make it, I can see in you that glimmer:
Finally, the gap between start and end has grown slimmer.

  2. Wow, halfway already? April is passing by so quickly!

I sniff the air, catching a whiff
Of whatever it is, Master consumes
I cock my head in the position as always
I droop my ears low, pressed against my skull
My eyes turn up in a pleading stare
My tongue lolling as I pant softly
As he turns, my tail wags slightly
Hope filling me, but not my stomach
Master glances between me and his meal
As if deciphering what he already knows
Then shakes his head with a soft chuckle
Turning away from my begging pose
My tail drops its excited twitch
And I slowly trod away from Master
To the other end of the table
    Where Master’s pup sits
    I reacquire my previous position
She giggles lightly and looks at Master
    Then reaches a hand down,
Holding the source of the smell
And as I quickly scarf it down
    I realize it is breakfast-for-dinner
    And I’m having bacon.

  3. Going wonderfully, woohoo! Halfway already!?

    — Poem of today

There are two mirrors on either side of me,
    A game I’ve seen before.
One of hypnotizing splendor to my left,
One of disorganized chaos to my right.

Enticed by both, I must make a choice.
A captivating beauty on both sides.

The dark rumbling of thunder purs to my right,
A dark grey version of crimson grumbles.
A wispy breaze wafts to my left,
A lovely green hue cascades in the light.

There are two mirrors on either side of me,
Both paths I’ve walked down before.
My heart calls to roaring thunder,
My mind calls to the uplifting meadows.

  4. Morning you already here?
You come with joy, you come with sheer.
Need to go, good morning day,
    need to go and play.

Come here child, lets take a walk.
I promise not to stop and talk.
Breakfast no, you don’t need that,
    ur not like a cat.

    Get your leash, hurry up,
    maybe you need to jump.
Don’t want you to run away,
    for you need me today.

    Hello bud, hello friend,
there is playground, full of men.
Lets go child, lets go find,
    candy on the ground.
