Today’s prompt:

Try writing a poem incorperating a word from the title of the last book you finished or are reading.

Please read the NaPoWriMo page for details on how the challenge works and how you can participate this month, no matter what your personal writing challenge is for the month of April. Please read How to Post During NaPoWriMo. Remember that work shared this month is shared in precisely that spirit: sharing, as opposed to critiquing.

I’m jealous of the ground you walk on
I’m jealous of the people you talk to
I’m jealous of the car you ride in
    The truth is, I’m jealous
Because all these things are associated with you
While I’m somewhere in the background
I’m jealous of the words you write
I’m jealous of the pen you write with
I’m jealous of the paper you write on
    The truth is, I’m jealous
Because all these things get to feel your touch
I’m jealous of the mirror you look in
I’m jealous of the people you walk by
I’m jealous of the phone you text from
    The truth is, I’m jealous
Because all these things get to see your face
    Yes, I’m jealous
Jealous of the things that get you
While I’m left in the dark with nothing

She walks through the store with her eyes cast downward
She crosses her arms over her stomach, following silently behind her parents
She looks up, only to have tears well up and a lump in her throat form
So she returns with her eyes cast downward
She only responds to her parents with few-word sentences
And she hates being out in public
Because she worries too much about her looks
And the demons follow her even through the store
The only place she’s allowed outside her house
Where she walks with her eyes cast downward
Her eyes are swollen and she want no one to see
How she is really feeling within
She pushes up her glasses and fixes her hair
Only to cross her arms back over her stomach
    Keeping her eyes cast downward

    I’m underground
    In a shallow grave
Where I can feel your footsteps walk above me
    For a moment
    Just a moment
    I think it’s my headstone you’re visiting
Until I feel them pass by
    My eternal ‘resting’ place
Was just ground for you to walk on
    Away from me

    1. They should know better. Shame on those adults. They get children sick with eggs. But I can’t bring myself to blame the chickens.

      1. Lol! That’s hilarious, when any animals do something wrong or badly, I usually blame the owner rather the animals. XD

    2. Wow, I love all of them Marysa! The first one is so relatable, and has so much meaning! The second one is so emotional and relates to what the world is going through right now. I’m sorry if you feel that way, and I bet you’re beautiful no matter what you think! And wow, the last one is eerily close to something I’m going through right now, I love how relatable your poems are and the meaning and depth behind them. Amazing job. ❤

      1. Thanks. I’m sorry it’s relateable….These are honestly all my life..I write from emotions usually, and all these are written from honest emotions I pulled from within.

      2. Wow, I’m so sorry you’re going through all of this, it gets better. Trust me. ❤

    3. Just generally wondering, have you listened to the song Jealous by Labrinth? That’s what your first poem reminds me of (It’s amazing btw). And the second one is even more fabulous, I love it…I mean in a depressing way, but it’s really good. The last is interesting, I like it 😛

  2. This is a tough one. I’ll have to ask my cat.
Me: Good morning. How is your Kingship today?
Lark: I am well, my human. I would be better if you did not leave everyday. and Get swallowed by the steel beast.
Me: do you mean the car?
    Lark: Perhaps.
Me: But I have to babysit and dog walk… to make money for your litter box, cat litter and food I might add.
Lark: You? Take care of me? Please human… Alexa. I can take care of myself. I like my ancestors are a notorious hunter. Shall I tell you of my hunting conquests?
Me: no thank you, I am good. Wait. Hunting conquests? By that do you mean the time you tried to catch a bird and then tripped on your own foot? Or when you tried to attack your Kitty Kat Nip Toy and then stopped mid jump to lick your ear? Or how about when –
Lark: Okay, enough. So I am not a leopard, I am cat enough to admit that. But I am a fierce lion.
Me: Yes, your gold eyes are eerily close to a lion’s but that does not mean that you are a hunter.
Lark: I am more educated then you in that category. I can hiss.
    Me: Hissss
Lark: ahhh!!! Okay. Hissing. Coughing. I win.
Me: and I read and I go to school.
Lark: But I am wiser than your 15 years and cats are born intelligent. You have to learn intelligence.
    Me: Honeybell?
    Lark: He was an exception.
Me: Honeybell was the sweetest little boy there was. And he brought us lizards that were alive. And when you swatted him he closed his eyes and pretended to be invisible.
Lark: So? I am still an amazing hunter and I insist you bow to me right now.
Me: No. Should I get Bella?
    Lark: That bird is evil.
Me: He is half the size of you. he doesn’t even way three pounds, let alone your twenty.
Lark: Evil! He sqawks at me.
Me: If you were such a grand hunter you wouldn’t be afraid of him.
Lark: Do not disrespect me… or I will take away Hamlet.
    Me: You don’t read Shakespeare.
    Lark: I do.
Me: May I scratch your chin, oh wise and kind king?
    Lark: of the jungle?
    Me: Fine.
    Lark: Then yes, my human.

This has been a day in the life of my cat, the lion, King of the jungle and named for a Meadow Lark.

    1. Oh my gosh! These are always so amazing Alexa! I love your “lark adventures” stories! Amazing, you should seriously consider making this into a comic or something, I would read it! 😀

    2. Okay, seriously, I love your ‘conversations’ with your cat xD. They are always so amazing, I swear, I smile every time I read them. Do you have a picture of your cat? I’d love to see what he looks like xD. You can send it to my email;
Also, you should have a ‘book’ of just a compilation of conversations with your cat. I’d read it over and over. XD Do you have a blog?

    3. Sadly I don’t have a picture on my computer, nor do I have access to my mother’s computer, which has the pictures. I love your title Gabby, Lark Adventures, it makes me so happy that everyone likes them so much, thank you!!!!! 🙂 All of you made my day with your comments, which is great cause I lost my babysitting job thanks to an argument between my mother and the parents, thank you so much and Lark thanks you too! 😀

      1. Lark is white with two black spots with brown in the middle on one side, and three on the other. His head is partially striped and he looks like he wears a mask, his eyes are gold and look exactly like a lions.

      2. Aww, Lark sounds so cute!!! In my head, I thought he was a gray cat, lol. I love these, honestly, they usually make my day. 😀 ❤

  3. Jesus Always
    Shows a way
    I have faith
    Even though I’m grave
    Great grandmother,
    My sweet other
    You’re old and frail
    Please don’t bail
    I know you’re going through a lot
    I know its tough
    I know it rough
    You have so many prayers
    So many layers
    But everyone’s lost hope
    They say you’ll die
    And you cant cope
They say there isn’t a chance
    That you’ll get through this
    They say you’re dying
    They say they’re lying
Why are we all losing faith?
She hasn’t walked through those gates
    Just yet
    And you could bet
    That there’s still a chance
    I’m holding her hand
    From a distance
Its impossible for me to go right now
I’m trying to figure out how
    Please don’t die
    There’s still life
Why is everyone around me leaving?
    They’re all dying!
Every day is filled with death
    Who is left?
    Its a guess
    But I still have faith
    I still pray
    I beg of you
    To do
    What I ask
    Such a strong task
    Please pray for her
    She needs even more
    She needs you
    She needs it
    I love her
This is what she needs to conquer.

Based on my great grandmother who is suffering from cancer, please pray for her! Everyone around us is saying shes dying and she has absolutely no chance at making it out, but I have faith, please, please, please pray, you wouldn’t know how much it means! 😦 ❤

    1. I’m not religious, but I wish the best for you and your grandmother. My great grandfather has just recently beat cancer for the…uhm..idk. He’s had it before, it comes and goes. I wish her best, and hopeful for a recovery, and I wish you the best in having to deal with such a hard time. Keep hope, and it’ll be okay.

      1. Thank you or your kind words. 🙂 I’m sorry your great grandfather had to go through all of that, I’m glad he’s better now. Thank you so much for your sweet words. She is going in for emergency surgery today, and everyone around her isn’t answering our calls or talking to us, so we have no idea what’s going on. She might of even had the surgery last night, we don’t know. Thanks again for the kind words, you don’t know how much it means. 🙂 ❤

      2. I hope it goes well, and I hope everything turns out okay. Don’t thank me, you gave me positive support, and have said nice things to me when I needed it the most. So I should be thanking you….thank you.

      3. Wow, I’m so happy I’ve helped you before. I can tell from what you write that you’re going through a lot, and I know it will get better. I’m so glad Ive made a difference in your life and Ive actually done something to help. 🙂 Thank you for your kindness and your big heart! 🙂

    2. Oh my. I am so terrible sorry you’re going through this, Gabby. I promise it’ll get better, just keep hope. I honestly believe she’ll get better, don’t worry. Also, if I may ask, how old is she?
I know it’ll get better, just keep believing.
Aside, really great poem. ❤ 😦

      1. Thank you so much Sofia, you don’t know how much this means. Shes in her mid 80’s, I’m not exactly sure of her exact age, but I think shes about 86. 😦 Thank you so much for your kind words. ❤

    3. Hi Gabrielle! This poem is so beautiful and emotional, it actually made me cry. You did a wonderful job with it. I lost my own grandmother this January and I know the pain you’re going through. I hope your grandmother can beat this! I’m so so sorry that you, your grandmother, and your family are having to go through this. I’ll keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.

      1. Hi Sarah! Tank you, I’m so sorry for your loss. Yeah, I’m praying and hope that she can make it through this! Thank you for your kind words. ❤ Also thank you for praying for her, I know every prayer counts!!! 🙂 ❤

    4. I can’t say whether I’m religious or not, I’m still figuring that out, but I’m sorry for what you’re going through and you’re in my thoughts. Both of my grandparents on my mother’s side passed away from cancer. ❤ I'm sorry for what you're going through.

      1. Thank you Alyssa, I’m so sorry for you losses, its tough to lose both. 😦 Thank you for your sweet comments and kind words. 🙂 ❤

    5. Oh my goodness Gabby! This is so tough to go through, my Great Grandfather and my Uncle passed away a few years ago and I was not very close since I was so young and they lived a bit far away, but I still felt a huge loss and the sadness all around was just heartbreaking. I’m lucky to have not lost anyone very close to me but I know the day will come and I can’t imagine ever being prepared for it. For you to be going through so much right now, I know must be very tough, I will definitely be praying. I hope your Grandmother gets well and that you get to see her in tip-top shape very soon ❤ ❤ Best of wishes to everyone in your family who is feeling the sadness of such a heart-wrenching circumstance ❤ ❤

      1. Thank you so much Isabella, this means way more than you think. Ive sadly lost many family members over the years, luckily not immediate family like my parents or sibling, but other relatives, some I was close to. I’m so sorry for you uncles loss! 😦 Again, thank you for your kind words, you really don’t know how much it means!!! 🙂 ❤

  4. (This is unrelated to the prompt)

    Anyone and anything fades away.
My thoughts and feelings- they’ve gone astray.
    It’s a utopian world, a pretty oblivion.
    Things slowly shift into place,
    Slowly start making sense.
    I finally find solid ground,
    Standing tall and steady.
    For a while there’s a perfect silence
In this utopian world, this pretty oblivion.

  5. The last book I read was “Falling Into Place” by Amy Zhang

I didn’t think it would end like this
With crooked smiles and distant eyes
Your lies traveling into my mind
With broken words and distant wishes
I didn’t think you would be like this
But let me tell you it’s made my day
    I’ve finally fallen into place
    Losing you made me change
    Losing you made me brave
    Losing you made me safe
You thought you would break me
    Instead I fell into place,
Becoming the me I was before you
Before you changed me and made me weak
    I’ve fallen into place

      1. It’s about a girl who is dealing with being alone. You should read the synopsis on google lol. I’m horrible at summaries 😛

      1. Haha thank you! ….I had to reread that…I forgot I told you that nickname lol 😉 ❤

  6. Unrelated to the prompt

I don’t know why I do the things I do
And torture myself with the memories of you
They wear and tear and break me down
They make me wear the deepest frown
They make me so incredibly sad
Or make me feel inexplicably mad
The things I decide to dwell upon
Now all seem so stupidly wrong
    I miss you, and wish I didn’t
But throw you away, I couldn’t
    I wish I knew what I did
To make you go and abandon
When all I seem to have for you
Is love that it seems you outgrew

    1. Oh my god, that is totally perfect, Marysa! My poetry is nothing compared to yours, and yours either, Alyssa! You are both fantastic poets. I realllyyyyy wish I could write the way both of you do. 😦 ❤

      1. It’s what?! Lol, the only poem I believe that I’ve ever written ‘meh’ is Soulmates and Flawless, which is coming up onto the blog sometime soon. But thank you, anyways! ❤

      2. Sofia, honestly your work is flawless! I love ready your poetry! But thank you so much!

    2. Wow, so beautiful and heart wrenching Marysa, That last line is really touching. Beautiful job. 🙂 ❤

    Dear CWC,
You have helped me be me.
    Gabby, Marysa,
    Alexa, Alyssa,
    You guys keep me writing.
If it weren’t for your comments,
I honestly don’t know what I would do.
    The support you give is
    So immense, thank you all
    Very much.
    CWC is my club,
Where I’ve been blooming like a bud.
I’ve made friends, all of you,
Thank you so much, I truly do.

Hey, Everyone and Gabby, Marysa, Alexa , and Alyssa, this poem was dedicated to you guys. I love how you keep me writing, especially your sweet comments. Thank you all so much!! ❤ 😀

    1. I literally teared up while reading this, you are awesome Sofia, you are literally one of the most amazing people I have ever met!!! Thank you for writing this, its truly beautiful and I love it. You have such a big heart and so many kind words, I cant thank you enough for being a wonderful person, the world needs more people like you and the rest of the CWC students!!! 🙂 ❤

  8. Wizards and Witches
Both of good and bad influence
    Contracts made with demons
    And oblivious love and romance
Castles that seem to have minds of their own
A scarecrow that goes everyone you do
A child whose skills he likes to hoan
Doors that change whenever you pass through
And curses that make you age
With riddles you can’t help but want to unravel
With wars that are being endlessly waged
That’s what one an expect for Howl’s Moving Castle

    Hope you guys like it!!!!!

      1. You created an amazing theme and the words you used just made it really perfect! This is great! Awesome job Lia 🙂

  9. Unrelated to the prompt

How does one think only of themselves
With no worry of others health?
How does one sit back and stare
As another struggles to afford something to wear?
How does one look on and laugh
While others fall victim to life’s insufferable wrath?
    How does one just smile
As some people, for food, walk miles?
How does one act so selfishly
When all around them, people are suffering?
It is a lack of empathy and guidance
And the mentality; “Who cares how others survive this?”

  10. World is a mess
    Infection at its best
    Confusion and rage
    Killing Rampage
    Enduring pain
    Death on every page

    Infected spread
    Sickness people dread

    Gone, this will never end
Only one can save us all
    Only one holds the
    Death Cure

I’m currently re-reading The Death Cure to get ready to watch the movie!
Also the poem spells something out! 🙂 😉

  11. Unrelated to the prompt

Have you ever felt like you were stuck in a cage
Like a dog with rabies and harrowing rage
Or a zombie infected with a horrible plague?
Try to imagine, if only for an instant
What it feels like to be trapped
Like a piece of candy, in the foil, enwrapped
Or a poor young soul sold or kidnapped
The outside world so incredibly close
Just out of reach, something you can’t snatch
A normal life that you can’t quite catch
You must admit that you’ve met your match
And you may never escape the dreadful enclosure
The confines you and keeps you from positive exposure

  12. Family may not pay attention. Friends will change.
Life is not perfect, and neither am I.
People may laugh, say your strange.
But they are not normal, and neither am I.

Outcasts make the best stories, but it’s a painful process.
Rebels are loved in movies and undervalued in life.
I believe life is like chess.
Full of second guesses and met with strife.

Troubled artists paint the best pictures. They are meant to give cheer.
Their pain is given a standing ovation, though their life is full of fear.
Life has a different meaning to everyone. Sadly, some don’t have a theory.
Our gift is to use our experience with sadness to help the weary.

  13. A court has fallen
    One of wings and ruin
    Once so grand and beautiful
Now nothing more than Ash and rubble

    *A short and simple one*

  14. Lilacs tread the ground,
A new season has come around,
Flowers and birds can be found,
If only you look and listen to the sound.
Super late, but at least a contribution has been made 🙂
