  1. Gabrielle Lovell

    You’re flying now
I don’t know where or how
    Uncle Tony
    Was it all just baloney?
    How was the hospital?
    Did they treat you right?
    How come the killed you?
I knew you still could fight
They didn’t want me to see you
In the state you were in
    They said what I knew
    Was no longer him.
    They said cords and cables
    Covered your features
    You laid there, almost dead
    Mini strokes inside your head
    Oh uncle tony
    Are you flying now?
Are you up in the clouds?
    Looking down?
    Shaking your head
    At the choices
    You wife makes?
Remember your son, are you keeping him safe?
    He misses you so much
    You haven’t got a clue
Are you happy now while flying?
Are you out of pain too?
Oh uncle tony, with your bright white wings
Ill see you someday, and together we’ll sing
    Your halo so bright
    Against the night sky
    I remember the night
    They said you’ll die
    Even though it was unexpected
    It came as a shock
    At such a wonderful person
    Who’s life was lost.

    ——
Dedicated to my uncle Tony who passed away a while ago. He was a great person and he died from heart attack. He was in a coma for a long time, and once he moved to hospice, he died. Please tell me what you think! 🙂

  3. Unrelated to the prompt

When I look to the stars
    I see only you
    I can’t help but wonder
When you look to the stars
    Do you see me too?
    …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

When I turn out the lights
and beg the darkness around me to take me
with it into a quiet slumber, it is you
that enters my mind instead of the calming
    nothingness that comes with sleep.
I am awarded by longing and loneliness
with the memories invading every thought within me
instead of surrendering to the exhaustion that waits
with its arms open wide and a lopsided grin.
I lie awake remembering every recollection of you
and plead for the kind of sleep I can only receive
when you’re lying next to me.

  4. Bridget Bishop

It’s only when you fall that you discover you have wings.
When you sin do you see the line between good and evil.
Only then you beg for forgiveness.
You realize you need something to bring your heart back to life.

Only when you’re afraid do you spread your wings.
And when you’re surrounded by fire that you set yourself,
Someone with wings comes to your rescue.
It’s at our lowest we learn how to fly our highest.

And when you can’t sleep because you know someone is falling.
You paint pictures of faces you miss. You want wings to escape.
To fly away, away from everything but save the falling.

Addicted to sadness, it wasn’t your choice.
But most see someone wanting attention.
You try to tell them you can’t see your wings to fly.
But they turn away and you fall.

They will think you are crazy. Mind are vicious.
    Wings can be torn too.
Fly your way back. But how?
If you are falling away from everything; you need help to come back.

Wandering in circles. Stuck on the ground.
How do we reach the sky?
It is better to run than stay in place.
Sometimes we need someone else wings.

Those who always knew they had wings to fly.
    Help those falling.
    Watch out for those falling.
Be with those who have fallen.

  5. Soaring above the trees
So much for the eye to see
    Wind sliding through my wings
My talons gripping what I bring
My cry echoes off the mountain tops
The rabbit I hold no longer hops
    Gliding downward I elegantly fall
To the tree that proudly stands tall
There sits a nest made from sticks
    Decades old, occasionally fixed
    The new generation waiting
“we’re hungry” is what their stating
A graceful landing and I give what they need
    Satisfied they silently feed

  6. I close my eyes
    Soaring higher than ever before
    My head is spinning
Wondering how I could be here
    Above the trees
    Above the sky
In a place that shouldn’t be mine
But I’ve claimed it as my own
    Alone in this vast existence
    In space I float
    Dreaming of a life
    Within the stars
    I’m up above the clouds
    Loving you from afar

  7. Free,
    Flight,
    Float,
    Like a kite,
    Not by boat,
    Never by sea,
    But by air,
    Forever free.

    Free,
    Fall,
    Safe,
    Worry is small,
    All evil; In caves,
    Air is all,
    Forever we praise.

    Free,
    Breathe,
    Soar,
    Our destiny we weave
    Tis’ in our core,
    Air is eternal,
    Forever grounded; No more.
